Greene Countrie Towne, by F. R. Harris.
F.R. Harris was teacher, principal and superintendent of the Greenfield School. He was also a world traveler. His history of Greenfield is considered a definitive look at the town as it progressed from unknown territory to a small town in the 1880's. He used many sources, including earlier histories of Highland County and oral histories he collected. He did an excellent job of describing Greenfield and the community's reaction to major historical events of the time period covered in this book.

The Underground Railroad's Busiest Escape Route by Paul Young.
Local historian Paul Young chronicles the time period before the Civil War and the escaping of runaway slaves through the area where Highland, Fayette and Ross counties meet. He uses what written material is available and oral histories left by the many people involved, especially the Quakers and Presbyterians. He ties the route from the town of Ripley, Ohio and the Rankin family to routes through the tri-county area and local families.
